time wasted? time spent…

though this was nearing sunset, the clouds remained “stuck” to the hills all day

The storm tonight is in Idaho.

The normal routine is to check weather, and if it’s in the correct parameters, go climb. Those parameters are for approximately 30% chance of rain, partly cloudy. Index was windy and looked very dry. We should have stopped and climbed there yesterday. In Leavenworth, there were lingering low clouds that produced rain. It rained this morning, but all through the early day, it stayed overcast with heavy cloud/fog coverage still lingering on the hillsides. Tumwater was totally looking bad. Blue sky broke over Mountain Home road with sun on those boulders. We went into Icicle and went for a hike up the main¬†Snow Creek trail that follows Snow Creek on the south side of Icicle creek.

Though it rained, the real culprit was fog. Very dense. Only the theweathernetwork.com predicted fog for yesterday morning. We didn’t pay much attention to that. Basically, there is heavy low cloud coverage after the storm and those are the ones causing poor conditions. I don’t know the reason for why this storm leaves fog and the another storm moves over and leaves windier and clearer skies with less humidity. Maybe this storm is just moving very slow. No idea. Regardless, if you can find a way to know if fog is in the forecast, don’t come out here. We’ll try tomorrow and maybe thursday.

Here is a screen grab from earlier today:

Here is another view of the “clouds”:

Two weeks ago today was our last day in Squamish. I think we left at the right time. Leavenworth could get better; temps aren’t a worry.
