lexar flash media, or an sdhc card

i thought others might want to know about this if you use a camera or gadget with an SD card slot. i’ve been using Lexar Professional compact flash cards for my dslr, and i just assumed it was fine to use the same brand in SD cards for the mirrorless cameras we use now when climbing or traveling. i think i’m going to switch gears and use Sandisk or Hoodman, at least for SD in the future.  this one card in the photos below has seen better days. it just happened. like 2 pieces have come off, one logged in my card reader preventing me from using it with another card. it got stuck in a way that only that card, the one with the broke off part, works in that reader. I finally found the culprit and removed it, but as you can see, it’s still falling apart, AND usable.

still braking, one bridge section between contacts (near one) broke off

after looking at my other cards, the Sandisk Extreme cards are made more robust, and they feel solid. the lexar cards feel hollow and pliable. this is lame. I asked Lexar about it, and they only sent me a email form to fill out asking about the date of purchase, etc. the card is over 1 year old. sending it back is not worth it given the low costs SD cards are. i’d rather just have more reliable ones anyway. hoodman also makes robust cards, so from now on all SD cards will be Sandisk or Hoodman.
